Challenges and Opportunities Ten Years Later, a conference jointly sponsored by the Civil Rights Division and the George Washington University Law School, explored the civil rights issues that Muslims, Arabs, Sikhs and South Asians in America have faced since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The conference examined the rise in hate crimes and discrimination in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the ways in which the challenges have changed over time, and the key civil rights issues likely to face these communities in the years ahead and how to address them.

Last week, Gwyneth Paltrow accepted Mario Batali’s Food Stamp Challenge, designed to raise awareness about obstacles that low-income families face. For a week, participants live off of roughly $31 worth of food — $1.48 per meal.

Paltrow dropped out after four days when she realized her seven limes and bundle of greens was unsustainable for an entire week.
